How to Increase Worker Productivity with Your Team Working from Home

As businesses learn how to cope with the new reality of operating under stringent new guidelines that come with COVID-19, we here at bBIG Communications want to share the insights and strategies we’ve learned over the past 10 years’ operating an award-winning virtual agency.

As bBIG CEO David Gibson notes: “In 2010 bBIG Communications set out to be a 100% remote company, focused on finding the best talent no matter where they lived, we offer our employees the flexibility to work from home, while still providing exemplary agency services to our clients.”

Fast-forward to 2020, we have continued to grow and expand our footprint to have a global presence. Despite this growth and expansion, virtual communication and collaborative project management has remained an integral part of our day to day business operations.

The learnings we’ve found revolve around being able to work around our valued employees’ schedules – not the other way around which is the norm at most companies.

The reality is that people have daily needs they need to attend to – from being able to tend to children to wanting to attend a certain class at their gym. The ability to allow our team to work around their own personal schedule has not only resulted in an increase in productivity, it’s also enabled us to attract a more talented workforce.

What we’ve found is that employers shouldn’t fear the idea of their employees working out of their home, rather they should embrace the many benefits that come along with that strategy.

According to a report from Global Workplace Analytics, those who don’t have to commute to an office who spend, on average, 200 hours annually commuting to work at a cost of $2,600 with an average 45 minute commute, are far more productive.

The same study from Global Workplace Analytics highlighted a case study from American Expresses’ work-from-home program that indicated those working from home produced 43 percent more than their office counterparts.

Our discovery is that when employees don’t have to worry about things like ‘what’s the best day to take time off’ so they can take their child to the Doctor, they become much more productive.

This virtual office strategy has enabled us to bring in proven, industry leading subject matter experts in a wide range of marketing segments including:

  • Strategy, Innovation and Reporting
  • Building Digital Communities
  • Creative Services
  • Digital and Social Marketing
  • Promotion and Consumer Activation

As a result of the award-winning work being done in each of those areas highlighted above, we’ve taken on larger clients who appreciate the results we deliver that has led directly to increased sales for their brand.

The key to success lies in ensuring that everyone is on the same page, that there are consistent times scheduled that we can communicate as a team and that we have the right systems, programs and apps in place that make idea sharing a collaborative process.

With millions of working professionals now working from home out of health concerns from COVID-19, we are pledging to offer complimentary consulting services to help companies in need of creating or streamlining their virtual communication and workflow efforts.
